Benefits of Pilates

It’s no surprise that Pilates has countless benefits – that’s why we do it! But sometimes it just doesn’t feel like there’s enough time in the day (or week) to squeeze a workout in, and it can be a little too easy to pick sleeping in or an evening on the couch over hitting the studio. But there are so many benefits to having a regular Pilates routine, it makes the effort beyond worth it. Here are a few of our favorite things about Pilates:

Makes muscles stronger, leaner, and longer

Because of Pilates’ strategic, technical movements, it tones muscles without bulking them up and strengthens your core like you’ve never experienced before. With many of us succumbing to bad posture sitting at desks or leaned over our phones all day, a strong core is more important than ever. Pilates’ repetitive body weight exercises can help make you more flexible and stronger while still keeping muscles lean and long.

It’s low-impact

Pilates is a low-impact exercise with high-impact results. Being low-impact means that people who are new to regular exercise or with limited flexibility or injuries can enjoy Pilates as a safe way to get stronger. Pilates is an accessible form of exercise for people of all ages and skill levels – so no matter how often you work out, you never need to feel intimidated stepping into the studio.

It’s a major mood booster

Workout endorphins are the ultimate mood booster. It can be challenging to drag yourself out of bed in time to hit the studio before work, but all day long you’ll be glad you did! Feeling yourself getting stronger and more flexible class after class builds so much confidence, making you feel proud of your progress and excited to make even more.

Builds friendships and community

One of the best parts about coming to The Body Lab is becoming part of a strong community of amazing people who build each other up and help each other get better. Many of our clients routinely come to the same workout times each week, so you’re seeing the same people every time and building friendships. After months or even years of working out together, we all know each other so well and get involved in each others' lives, creating meaningful bonds as we all strive to get stronger together.

Improves fitness in all areas

Aside from improving at, well, Pilates, a regular Pilates routine can also make you a better runner, a better cyclist – pretty much any physical activity you enjoy partaking in – because you’re increasing your fitness in other ways and targeting different muscle groups you don’t in those activities. Pilates makes you a more balanced, flexible, and well-rounded athlete. Plus, we think it’s a lot of fun!

The great thing about Pilates is that the more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. If you want to enjoy all the benefits Pilates has to offer, book your next class with us today – or sign up for a membership to make the most of our studio! See you there!
